Rising PSA after Prostate Removal

Q.I have had my prostate removed. The PSA reading after removal was 0.0. Now the latest check says 0.7. What’s the trouble now?

Milton

A.As a urologic oncologist, I see a large number of men with rising PSA after definitive therapy for prostate cancer — either radiation therapy or radical surgery.

I am assuming you had a radical retropubic prostatectomy, which is the most common procedure for prostate removal. As a part of that operation, the surgeon would have removed your lymph nodes as well.
